SimCare Course Catalog
Welcome to the SimCare Course Catalog. This library of prebuilt simulation courses is designed to give counseling students realistic, safe practice with virtual clients.
Below, you'll find everything you need to get started, an explanation of how our simulations work, and a full list of our current course offerings.
Training & Setup
To help you get up and running, please review our core training videos:
Faculty Training Video – A walkthrough on how to use the instructor dashboard, manage your course shells, and review student progress.
Student Training Video – A quick guide you can share with your students on how to interact with the virtual clients.
Canvas Integration Training – Step-by-step instructions on how to sync SimCare with Canvas.
How the Simulations Work: The "Mini Case"
By default, the modules in our prebuilt courses are set up as Mini Cases.
Instead of starting a session from a blank slate, a mini case drops the student right into a clinically significant moment. The virtual client kicks off the simulation with a specific opening disclosure; for example, bringing up a family conflict, admitting to a relapse, or expressing an ethical dilemma.
We designed it this way because it allows for shorter, highly focused simulation sessions. It also guarantees that students get the opportunity to practice specific, in-the-moment skills, rather than spending the whole simulation just trying to build initial rapport.
Want the full experience? If you'd prefer your students to practice an entire session from start to finish (beginning with a standard greeting and uncovering the client's issues organically) you can easily substitute any mini case with the Full Case version.
Customizing Your Course
While these courses are ready to use out of the box, you aren't locked into our settings. Instructors can create copies of any course shell in the SimCare platform and tweak it to fit their syllabus.
Once you copy a course, you can easily adjust:
Time limits for the simulations
Post-simulation assessments
Due dates
The feedback system (adjusting how and when students receive notes on their performance)
